Linux Anti-Virus software review

Published by thegeekprophet

Anti-virus software, for LINUX???? Not a necessity, but if you have a SAMBA share or back up your inferior operating system Microsoft Windows to a disk maintained by your Linux box, then you'd better be using anti-virus software! I'm going to install 3 of the most common anti-virus packages on my Linux Mint 12 box. You should have no problems installing this software on all of the big distros. I'm going to download a few HARMLESS Antivirus test files from EICAR. They are designed to trip the virus scanners.

Published by thegeekprophet

Moving away from tech stuff...kinda... I've been a VZW customer for a few years. I did the jump from 3G to 4G when it came out, I've had a few different smartphones also. Like many of you, I use the hell out of my phone. Lets just say that right now I'm at 4.4GB data usage on my unlimited data plan and my billing period isn't done yet.

Emulators and gaming for Linux geeks!

Published by thegeekprophet

In between newfs'ing partitions that didn't need it and playing around with Java, I thought that I should list a few games & emulators that are pretty fun to play under Linux. Since I use Linux Mint 12, thats what I'll be testing on. Most of us have old gaming systems we'd love to relive and play games on, the problem is, buying those old systems, you dont know what condition they're in and how long the'll last. Here is a small compilation of emulators and some Linux games I just threw in.

Extending your wireless coverage with DD-WRT and a used wireless router

Published by thegeekprophet

Went on a recent vacation with the wife..stopped by my sister's place and she had a Motorola WR850G wireless B/G router just waiting to be thrown away. Well, one issue I have is, I need wireless coverage in my garage, so this would be the perfect way to build a repeater bridge to tie into my existing wifi network. Problem is, the existing firmware built into the WR850G doesn't support what I'm trying to do, so we shall update it to use DD-WRT firmware.
